Go to the page 12 from the Guide regarding ”Labour Market Information” and read the information contains in the Part 1, Chapter 4 . ”What is the Labour Market?”

As you have seen, Labour Market Information is information about the market -where labour skills are exchanged for wages.

The key elements in the labour market are: the workers (provide labour) and jobs (employment opportunities).

In many ways the relationship between employers and workers is similar to the relationship between consumers and producers:

Workers offer a service (the labour they provide)


Employers buy that service at a price they can afford (the wages they pay)

 

As you can see, it’s a kind of market and it’s called the labour market.

Like other markets, the “labour market” involves both supply and demand.

DEMAND

Businesses, organizations and employers need people to work for them in order to run their operations

SUPPLY

People who work for these employers, or who are training or available to work, supply their skills, talent, and labour

The labour market also changes over time.

You can find employers, and jobs ads in many ways. This will help you explore your options, find a study or training course, apply for a job, or find an employer that’s right for you.

READ

Read online and papers – For example going to an employer`s website, an online job search website or local newspapers.

TALK

Talk to people who work in your community. Talk to people who already doing the job or course you’re interested in. Ring possible employers and ask what they look for in when hiring new people. Family members, caregivers, teachers, career advisers and others can help you find courses or jobs that suit your strengths and interests

VISIT

Visit career expos or job fairs to find out more about different career options. Visit a workplace that interests you and ask to have a look around.

DO

Get involved in related voluntary work, work experience schemes, or interesting projects or activities.
